According to Climate Consultant, the annual light level in foot-candles:
Below is a screenshot of guidelines for passive solar glazing area ratios found on Table F.1 in MEEB.
To increase the transparency of the glass on the northwest side to make a connection to Market Square Park so that the glass is not so reflective,
shading devices will be used to decrease the daylight factor directly on the outside of the glass, and having a glass roof to increase the daylight factor
on the inside of the glass. I hope this will achieve a window wall that is transparent, because glass that is reflective would create a barrier between inside
and outside that is not desirable.
Below are studies of solar patterns from sunrise to sunset. One for each quarter of the year: March, June, September, & December.
From the data in the month of June, looking at the angle of incidence we see that a northwest facing window is self-shading except
between the hours of 2-6 when a shading device will be useful.
Also, during the entire month of December there will be no sun available for heat gain on the northwest side of the building, although there
may be an opportunity for some on the northeast and southwest sides. Directly to the southeast there is an 8-story building with a zero lot
line so it blocks most of the sun from that direction as well.
